ABCs of CDC VAERS: What Is Being Reported?

Updated: 12 hours ago

With the headlines about vaccine side effects ranging from startling reports of death and serious injury to newspeak assurances of the unquestionable trust we should have in vaccine safety, I decided it was important to look at the actual vaccine adverse event report data currently published by the CDC. The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System has been reporting suspected adverse events since 1990 when it took the place of the CDC's s Monitoring System for Adverse Events Following Immunization (MSAEFI). You can read about the history and a more detailed description of the reporting system here.

Below may be found a few Pivot charts and tables I have created from the current 2021 dataset of COVID-19 vaccine adverse events reported as processed by the CDC as of 4/23/21 and 5/7/21. All of these datasets may be found here. The OpenVAERS.com API is also a great way to easily search the latest database reported by the CDC. Note that I make no extrapolation or claims about what may be concluded from these partial data sets. The dataset is voluntarily reported, fragmentary, and establishes no causal relationships. However, the dramatic increase of vaccine adverse event reports over previous years is, at the very least, worthy of close evaluation.

2020 COVID-19 Vaccine VAERS Data

The COVD-19 vaccine adverse events composed 19.5% of reported vaccine adverse events in 2020.

There were a total of 10,880 COVID-19 vaccine adverse event reports published in the CDC VAERS data for 2020.

2021 COVID-19 Vaccine VAERS Data Published by the CDC as of 4/23/2021

The COVD-19 vaccine adverse events made up about 99.5% of reported adverse events as of 4/30/2021. The number of COVID-19 vaccine adverse events processed by 4/23/2021 have increased 904% from the number of COVID-19 vaccine adverse events reported in 2020. In just four months, the total number of vaccine adverse events reported in the VAERS system has increased by 96.6% those reported in all 12 months of 2020 in the published VAERS data.

There have been a total of 109,200 COVID-19 vaccine adverse event reports reported in the CDC VAERS data for 2021 as of the data processed on 4/23/2021 and reported here by the CDC.

2021 COVID-19 Vaccine VAERS Data Published by the CDC as of 5/7/2021

As of 5/7/21, the CDC has reported 149, 251 vaccine adverse event reports processed as of 4/30/2021.

The Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine is in the lead representing 65,502 adverse event reports processed by the CDC as of 4/30/21.

Here is the current breakdown of COVID-19 vaccine adverse events by manufacturer and percentage of total vaccine adverse events in 2021 processed as of 4/30/21 and reported as of 5/7/2021.

According to the data processed by 4/30/21 and reported by the CDC as of 5/7/2021, there has been a 164.8% increase in all vaccine adverse event reports in the first four months of 2021 compared to all twelve months of 2020.

2021 COVID-19 Vaccine VAERS Data Published by the CDC as of 5/14/2021

As of 5/14/21, the CDC has reported 149, 251 vaccine adverse event reports processed as of 5/7/2021.

The Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine is in the lead representing 85,838 adverse event reports processed by the CDC as of 5/7/21.

Here is the current breakdown of COVID-19 vaccine adverse events by manufacturer and percentage of total vaccine adverse events in 2021 processed as of 5/7/21 and reported as of 5/14/2021.

According to the data processed by 5/7/21 and reported by the CDC as of 5/14/2021, there has been a 230.4% increase in all vaccine adverse event reports in the first four months and a week of 2021 compared to all twelve months of 2020.

Highlighted Vaccine Adverse Events as of 4/23/2021

1. 15-year-old boy from Colorado died from cardiac failure two days after Pfizer vaccination (VAERS ID: 1242573-1, Gab))

2. 16-year-old boy from Wisconsin died following persistent cardiac arrest believed secondary to pulmonary embolism eleven days after Pfizer vaccination (VAERS ID: 1243516-1, Gab)

3. 38-year-old woman received the Pfizer vaccination on 3/2/21 and she and her unborn child passed away 3/18/21 following "maternal cardiac arrest, terminal fetal bradycardia, emergent C-section [with Likely amniotic fluid embolism and DIC]" on 3/16/2021. (VAERS ID: 1168104-1, Gab)

Highlighted Analysis of CDC Data Reporting on COVID-19 Vaccines

Andrew Bostom, MD, MS pointed out that, as of 4/16/2021, VAERS "data reveal that for U.S. 18-49 year olds, C19 vaxes, relative to flu vaxes, are ~15-fold more likely to be associated with hospitalizations, and ~60-fold more likely to be associated with death" (Twitter; Gab).

COVID-19 Infections Following Vaccine Breakthrough

The CDC is changing their monitoring and sequencing standards for vaccine breakthrough COVID-19 cases apparently to improve data on vaccine efficacy. (Gab)

1. Changing PCR Cycle threshold (Ct) values:

"Clinical specimens for sequencing should have an RT-PCR Ct value ≤28" (CDC). Ct values are inversely related to viral load. More viral load and the virus will be detected via fluorescence of the PCR product at a lower cycle threshold. As of 4/29/21, the ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) Cycle threshold for virus detection was 35, a higher benchmark than the CDC has now decided to track the breakthrough cases.

2. The CDC will only be monitoring cases of hospitalization or death from COVID-19 following vaccination breakthrough.

"In the coming weeks, CDC will transition from monitoring all reported vaccine breakthrough cases to focus on identifying and investigating only vaccine breakthrough infections that result in hospitalization or death. This shift will help maximize the quality of the data collected on cases of greatest clinical and public health importance." (CDC).

There are a few more graphs I plan on working up in the coming weeks as more data is published in the VAERS databases. If you don't want to access the data sets yourself here from the CDC, you can access an easily searchable COVID-19 VAERS data on the OpenVAERS website here.

I have a Gab quote thread here if you want a social media thread of some of these findings.
